Cat Difficulty Eating

Question about older cats?
My cats are about 12 years old. They always horde their food,but theyre also getting skinny. I think one also has some difficulty eating the dry cat food (but they wont eat the canned food). what should i do to help them gain back some weight?
Dental issues or worms is a possibility but as they are older it is best to get them to see the vet to rule out possible Hyperthyroidism which is common in older cats.
